About the Brown Agate

Brown agate runs through amber, tan and a dark coffee brown, with the bands often ringed in cream or white. Held to the light the warmer layers glow like tea, while the darker seams stay solid, which gives the surface real depth for a stone that is only a fraction of an inch thick.

The handles are clear quartz. Quartz is colorless and glassy, so it reads as a bright break at each end of a warm brown plate, catching light from the side and throwing it back across the stone.

How It’s Made

Pieces of agate in similar tones and colors are joined with a clear epoxy resin, poured over them to make one firm plate. The tray is then trimmed with electroformed brass, which is real metal grown onto the stone until it has thickness and is permanently bonded, not a leaf or coating that can rub off. The clear quartz handles are trimmed the same way, so the metal on the handles matches the metal on the rim.
