Large Multicolored 12" Diameter Agate Platter/Tray
About the Agate
Multicolored agate puts several tones on one surface: rust and amber beside gray, cream, green and smoky brown, each piece keeping its own set of bands. Read together they make a circle that changes color as the eye travels around it.
The colors do not behave alike in light. Pale sections take light through and glow at their thin edges, the darker ones hold their tone and stay matte, so a lamp above the table lifts parts of the circle and leaves the rest quiet.
How It’s Made
Colorful gemstones are arranged into a 12" round circle, hand hewn from natural agate and trimmed with electroformed brass: real metal grown onto the stone and permanently bonded rather than a leaf or coating that can rub off, finished thick and metallic. There are no handles on this one. It is a platter meant to sit flat on a table or counter, with four rubber pads underneath so it does not mark the surface.
Details
- Material: natural multicolored agate, hand hewn
- Size: 12" diameter, round
- Finish: electroformed edging in gold, silver or rose gold
- Handles: none; the platter sits flat
- Base: 4 rubber pads to avoid scratching the surface
- Food use: serve with a liner, board or servingware rather than against the stone
Natural stone will vary in size, color and appearance, and on a multicolored piece that variation is the point.
A Gift For
Anyone who entertains and has run out of room on the counter: it is roomy enough for wine and cheese or fruit and nuts. A housewarming, wedding or Christmas gift, and a good hostess present because it comes out of the cupboard every time people come over.
Use and Care
Use it as a serving platter or as a landing spot for glasses, with food on a liner, board or servingware rather than on the stone. Hand wash and dry with a soft cloth.
