Finish

About the Metal

There is no stone in this piece. It is electroformed metal from edge to edge, grown onto a form in a bath until the wall builds a real thickness, which is why the vein structure of the leaf stays sharp instead of softening under a coating.

The finish behaves differently depending on where the metal sits. Gold is warm and even across the surface, silver reads cooler and brighter, and the antique finish settles darker into the recessed veins so the skeletal pattern separates from the ribs around it.

How It’s Made

The tray takes the outline of a maple leaf, with the intricate vein detailing of a skeletal leaf carried right across the face. It measures 8" in diameter and stands 0.5" high, shallow enough to lie flat on a console, a dressing table or the middle of a dining table without getting in the way. There are no handles; the piece is lifted by its own rim, and the metal runs unbroken from the stem end to the tip.

Details

  • Material: electroformed metal throughout, grown to a real thickness rather than applied as a coating
  • Size: 8" diameter x 0.5" height
  • Finish: gold, silver or antique
  • Design: maple leaf outline with skeletal vein detailing
  • Food use: made for serving snacks that are wrapped or sitting in a liner rather than in direct contact with the metal

Each piece is grown separately, so the depth of the veining and the way the finish settles into it vary a little between trays.

A Gift For

This is the gift for someone whose house is full already: it is decorative first, useful second, and it costs a recipient no shelf space. It suits a housewarming, a retirement, Christmas or a host gift, and the antique finish in particular reads well in a room of older furniture.

Use and Care

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Serve wrapped or lined snacks on it rather than placing food straight onto the metal.
