About the Agate

White agate is pale but not plain. Oyster, chalk and cream bands circle each other, with gray shadow lines marking where one layer ended and the next began, and the center of a piece often opens into a pocket of small clear crystals.

It reads brightest of all the agates in daylight. The pale bands pass light easily and take on a milky glow at the rim, while the gray lines stay put, which keeps the surface from looking washed out.

How It’s Made

A large rectangular plate, 10" x 15", carried by handles at either end. The plate is composite: agate of similar tone joined with a clear epoxy resin poured over the pieces until it sets firm, then trimmed round the edge with electroformed brass, real metal grown onto the stone and permanently bonded rather than a leaf or coating that can rub off. The handles are solid brass. Gold or rose gold warms the white; silver keeps it cold.
